The Hereford Times has reported that Paul Amott, described as a talented footballer, has been sent to detention for three months for trying to smuggle cannabis into Blakenhurst jail, near Redditch.
Amott, who was said to be a member of the Hereford United Academy, pleaded guilty at Worcester Crown Court last week.
He could be free after six weeks.
