The Observer continues its look at famous FA Cup games today and has two contributions about that Hereford match.
Hereford 2 Newcastle 1
1971-72 third-round replay
Muddy pitch, proper part-timers against internationals and one of the truly great FA Cup goals, from Ronnie Radford - unforgettable. In the 1990s I travelled the country implementing software and when I mentioned that I was from Hereford, clients always knew two things: the SAS base and Ronnie Radford!

We talk today of pride and passion, but this game was the pride, the passion, the hope, the mud, the glory, the giant versus the tiny and against all odds Hereford, the non-League side, did it. They did it.
What makes it all the more special is that no non-League side has since really come close to doing the same thing. It took a hat-trick from Geoff Hurst in the next round to beat that Hereford team. What more can you say?
