Swindon Wary Of Rovers Share

Swindon Town have reacted cautiously with news that Bristol Rovers could seek to share their County Ground home while their own Memorial Ground is redeveloped.

The 18,000 seater redevelopment is likely to split the partnership temporarily of Rovers and Bristol rugby club. With the rugby club expected to move to Ashton Gate in the interim, Rovers have discussed several sites with Swindon 'ticking a few of the important boxes'.

A return to their old Bath stomping ground is unlikely as it needs work to return it to Football League grading, and it would be impossible to field three sides at Ashton Gate. Even Forest Green Rovers have been thrown into the mix as a possible landlord, but their new ground is yet to be handed the necessary grading.

The move to Swindon would be beneficial to both sides, but the supporters and local residents have warned of problems after a league meeting between the sides saw seats ripped out and several arrests.

Swindon Town Supporters Trust vice chairman Andy Ratcliffe said: "I think it's a double-edged sword to be honest. I quite understand the attraction from the club's point of view. Obviously it would be extra revenue and that has to be welcome. Against that, I think there is potential for flash points and I think the police and traders would have serious concerns."
