The Bulls entertain the Magpies in the Football League for the first time in 30 years on Saturday.
The 1976/77 meetings saw the Bulls heavily beaten as their decline back down the divisions saw them finish bottom of the old Division Two. Notts County missed out on promotion to the top flight by four points that season, but were soon to make the rise up before sliding down the divisions in a similar fashion to the Bulls.
The Bulls of today, none of whom were alive for the last visit of the Magpies, took a surprise Christmas present of three points away from Meadow Lane with a rare Tim Sills goal seperating the sides. Since then, the Bulls have recorded just five of fifteen league points and dipped out of the FA Cup, scoring in just four of the last six matches. The fans are clamouring for new faces to bolster an inexperienced side at this level but their cries have only been met so far with loan signings.
Notts County were one of the early season pacesetters as their uncompromising football battered sides into submission but recent form has been patchy and has seen them dip just out of the play-off spots, four points above their hosts. Unlike the Bulls their squad is made up largely of experienced and grisly veterans. Former Nottm Forest forward, and pinapple fashion expert, Jason Lee leads the forward line and the disciplinary charts with ten league goals and eleven league bookings.
Hereford United vs Notts County, Edgar Street, Saturday 27th January 3.00pm.
