Ahead of their weekend trip to Edgar Street, Notts County have extended the loan of Southend midfielder Jay Smith until the end of the season. Smith, who started his career at Aston Villa, has played 11 times in a two month loan spell so far, scoring his first goal in last weeks demolition of Torquay.
Meanwhile fellow midfielder Andy Parkinson says the club still harbours automatic promotion hopes: "Hopefully the bad run we was on has gone now. We got back to back wins and now we're looking to build on that.
"We've made sure we've had a good few meetings about trying to sort it out. The fans have been quiet lately and rightly so. Hopefully we've given them something to shout about because we've been poor, but hopefully we've turned the corner."
The Magpies have a trio of doubts for the trip to Hereford, with Stephen Hunt, Austin McCann, and Junior Mendes all facing fitness battles. Left back Hunt is expected to miss the game with a groin injury, but his replacement McCann is hoping to be fit after a thigh injury. Mendes was forced off during the Torquay game with medial ligament damage but has responded to treatment and is also hopeful. All three were in the squad that lost to the Bulls before Christmas.
