Westley To Leave Stevenage

Graham Westley is to leave Stevenage when his contract expires at the end of June, a club statement has confirmed.

Westley has been in charge of the Hertfordshire club for three years but will depart after failing to secure a play-off spot this season. Speaking on the official Stevenage site Westley stated: "The board and I have been in discussions for the past couple of weeks about all aspects of my role at the club. We both held opinions about the future and we have both eventually decided that it is the right time for us both to change direction. Above all else, because of the geography of the club and my expanding business interests, there is no way that I can give the club the time that it needs as it builds upon its Academy structure and fully integrates football at all levels. I have enjoyed my time at Stevenage where I have met some great people and enjoyed a healthy degree of success. I leave the club with a fantastic squad of young players and wish the club, board, players and supporters every success in the future."

The move comes with Stevenage fans becoming increasingly disillusioned with Westley's tactics and often bizarre press statements. Stevenage had already axed 12 players in the last two weeks and a new manager is likely to be appointed soon in order to assemble a squad for next season.
