Forest Green not guilty

Implications in yesterday's Non-League Paper that Forest Green Rovers were trying to get points deducted from Altrincham over the "Robinson" affair have been dismissed by secreatary Colin Peake.

James Robertson is a player who moved from Accrington Stanley to Altrincham. Later it emerged that the Milkmen failed to get international clearance for Robinson after he had played in Iceland.

Last night Peake set the record straight about recent events:

The first that myself as Club Secretary or anyone at the club knew about James Robinson was when the Conference sent out an email saying that the FA had carried out an investigation. By that time Altrincham had already posted on their web-site that the FA had been looking into this for two weeks.

The main reason why I am quoted in the NLP is the fact that I had a phone call from another club club to say that a NLP staff member had been trying to find out if it was FGR who had reported Alty to the FA. To say I was livid was an understatement. I contacted the NLP and expressed my view on such a way to conduct themselves. I have had to send out an email to all Conference clubs trying to scotch this rumour and to put forward the view of FGR FC.

FGR FC nor myself have called for any points to be deducted from either Accrington or Altrincham and have actually asked the Conference to seek a ban on the player, if necessary via FIFA.

This story could run and run. In essence Accrington Stanley are probably at fault as they failed to get international clearance for Robinson, but at present the spotlight, perhaps unfairly, is on Altrincham.
