Tony Fowles of Ironworks Gazette sent Bulls News this item after last nights West Ham reserve game with Southampton.
Hammers defender Darren Blewitt who has just returned from a half season loan with Conference side Hereford United is returning to the Conference with local side Grays Athletic.
Darren who only turned down the chance of an extension at Edgar Road due to the lack of guaranteed first team starts is hoping to make his debut this coming Saturday for the Blues in the FA Trophy at Kidderminster. However if all goes to plan his home debut would be against Hereford on Saturday 28th January.
Following his appearance for the Hammers reserves last night against Southampton Darren found himself worrying about what sort of reception he would receive from the Bulls fans. In an exclusive interview last week in Ironworks Gazette, Blewitt was full of praise for the Bulls fans:
"When I first went there my first question was - Hereford where is it? Is it in England? Well Hereford is in England but only just isn't it? It's on the border but they are great people, I was a bit unsure at first but I found the locals really easy to get along with. The players were a bit of a mixture to be truthful, a few local boys; a couple of northerners and a few London lads so there were a lot of different accents going around obviously. But my accent was the best and in the end they all tried to copy me, but as for the locals well I can tell you there were a few interesting people down there that's for sure - but overall some great people"
Darren could be facing the Hereford away fans who he came to love in his short time at Edgar Road:
"I cant see why not, I mean they're fans are brilliant, the fans who go to away games are nutcases, they are great fans especially away from home you know? They go everywhere and they are a fantastic laugh and I loved playing for them, I took to them and I would like to think that they took to me. I mean when they play in the London area and if I am not playing anywhere myself I want to go and watch them but I don't want to sit in the stands - I want to stand behind the goal with them and join in. Hopefully the fans will remember me and let me join in with them, sing a few songs with them and cheer on the Bulls"
Unfortunately for Darren he won't be joining in their songs as he would have wished but facing them directly. On the bright side however if the move does work out for the season Darren will be very pleased that Grays have already travelled to Tamworth where Blewitt is not exactly popular:
"Yeah I am a wanted man there, I think that there is a bounty on my head, well a few of their fans got a bit silly after I had made a tackle and it all kicked off. It wasn't my fault, you know me better than that, it was just a flying tackle and everybody got involved and probably because I was the biggest and the loudest they started on me. But it was nothing really, well no more than usual."
