Williams wants to play against Cardiff

Gavin Williams is looking forward to November 27 when his new team, Ipswich travel to Ninian Park. Ex-Hereford United Williams is a Bluebird fan.

"I saw Cardiff City away on November 27," Williams told the South Wales Echo. "I can't wait for that game - it will be the first time I've played at Ninian Park."

Williams is currently with the Welsh squad preparing for their friendly against Cyprus in Limassol tomorrow. He hopes to earn his second Welsh cap tomorrow, having made his debut against Slovenia, and will then join Ipswich in time for their Coca-Cola Championship match at Coventry on Saturday.

"I've played against Cardiff before, in a pre-season friendly at Yeovil Town, but it will be a dream come true to run out at Ninian Park. I used to go down and support City when I was a schoolboy.

"I would stand at the Grange End, or sit in the Bob Bank.

"They were great times, watching players like Phil Stant, Carl Dale and Nathan Blake.

"Now I could be out there playing."

Williams also spoke about his move to the Tractor Boys.

"I need to be playing first team football and I'm joining Ipswich for a month initially. After that, who knows.

"It may be that I have to leave West Ham to get first team football.

"I'll make that decision at the right time. I'm looking forward now to getting a chance for Wales in Cyprus tomorrow and then linking up with Ipswich.

"I must admit, though, that fixture against Cardiff will be big for me."

Right-sided midfielder Williams started his career at Edgar Street, signing for Yeovil Town in a £20,000 transfer, with a sell-on clause, in 2002.
