Promotion and Relegation Issues

The Football Conference has clarified the rules regarding promotion and relegation from the Conference. The main change is the enlargement of the Conference to 24 teams. Hopefully Hereford United will have gained promotion and not be affected by these changes but just in case the Bulls are still in this league here are edited details of the changes.

The 2005/06 season will bring some changes to Promotion and Relegation which will affect all clubs and competitions in the national structure.

Nationwide Conference & The Football League - Season 2005/2006

At the conclusion of the 2005/2006 season two Nationwide Conference Member Clubs will be promoted to, The Football League - League Two, the Champion Club at the end of the Normal Playing Season and Winners of the end of season Play-Offs and Promotion Final, subject to each club meeting, The Football Leagues - Qualification Criteria in full by 1 March 2006. The clubs in 23rd and 24th positions of League Two at the end of The Football League's normal playing season will be relegated to the Nationwide Conference for membership in season 2006/2007.

Two Clubs Relegated to Nationwide Conference from - The Football League - League Two

Nationwide Conference, Nationwide North & Nationwide South - Season 2005/2006

The two Member Clubs in 21st and 22nd in the Nationwide Conference at the end of the 2005/2006, Normal Playing Season, will be relegated to either Nationwide North or Nationwide South.

At the end of the Normal Playing Season the Champion Clubs of Nationwide North and Nationwide South will be automatically promoted to the Nationwide Conference, subject to meeting Entry Criteria 'B' of the National Ground Grading Document dated February 2005 by 1 April 2006.

Two further clubs, one each from Nationwide North and Nationwide South, will be promoted as Winners of the end of season Play-Off Finals, subject to each clubs meeting Entry Criteria 'B' of the National Ground Grading Document, dated February 2005, in full by 1 April 2006.

Two Clubs Relegated from Nationwide Conference to Nationwide North or Nationwide South

Four Clubs Promoted to Nationwide Conference Two each from Nationwide North and Nationwide South

Summary - Seasons 2005/2006 & 2006/2007

The effect of the adjusted promotion and relegation at the end of the 2005/2006 Normal Playing Season will increase the number of Member Clubs in the Nationwide Conference to 24 for season 2006/2007.

At the end of the 2006/2007 Normal Playing Season Four Nationwide Conference clubs in, 21st, 22nd, 23rd, and 24th positions at the end of this season will be relegated to Nationwide North and Nationwide South with Four clubs being promoted to Nationwide Conference, Two from each of those two competitions. All Promotions and Relegations will be subject to clubs individually qualifying by 1 April 2007 in full with the FA National Ground Grading Document requirements for that season.

The Nationwide North and Nationwide South will remain as 22 Member Club competitions for season 2006/2007
