Barry Town, record seven times Welsh Premier champions, are up for sale.
Barry currently lie at the wrong end of the Welsh League Division One after amassing debts of over £1m, Barry were saved from administration by current owner Stuart Lovering in 2003 after severe financial mismanagement by a consortium that included having former Wimbledon striker John Fashanu installed as Chairman. Fashanu and the consortium lasted less that a year, but the damage was done. Barry were locked out of their Jenner Park home after the council increased the rent fourfold to nearly £1000 per week, and nosedived out of the Welsh Premier with a team of amateur players from the local leagues.
Lovering claims the side is now profitable despite facing a second successive relegation, and their Jenner Park home is now occupied by Barry FC, a side created by disillusioned Barry Town fans with the Council reducing their rent demands for the new side to less than £200 per game. It will be tough to sell a homeless club with gates of less than 70 to anyone other than a die-hard fan - and most of those have already set their own club up.
