Swindon Receive Some Financial Cheer

Ten days after a winding up order was issued to the club, Swindon have won a two year battle over former midfielder Sebastien Ruster.

Ruster's former club, French side Cannes, claimed compensation for the player when he joined Swindon for a four game spell in late 2003 and FIFA ordered a payment of over £230,000 for the player released by Cannes when they lost their professional status. Swindon took the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne and have today been told that the sum now payable is just over £13,500.

On Wednesday the club confirmed that it had avoided the latest winding up order over late payments on a £600,000 PAYE bill, but a Club spokesman would not be drawn on where the money had come from.

In other news, managerless Bristol Rovers have announced a £16m redevelopment of the Memorial Ground home they share with Bristol rugby club - funded by the building of 114 student flats at the ground.

Local residents have objected to the development, which is planned to include bars and a doctor's surgery, but planners have eased complaints by limiting bar opening times to 11pm, and the Club have confirmed that they plan to only offer accomodation to students who will not base cars at the site.
