Hereford supporter Colin Butler has been looking at alternative parking given the Courtyard car park is currently closed. With news of the Courtyard car park being closed during the theatre's August Amp event I started to think of alternative car parking.
At the very far end of Plough Lane there are two car parks allocated to council employees . When I have walked past them during the evening and at weekends they are both empty. It made me wonder if these could be used by football fans and people attending the theatre during August.
It would not be ideal for some as the quickest route would be over the metal footbridge crossing Bulmers. The rest of the route though would be via the footpath running parallel to the Westfield's ground then in to Prior Street to access Edgar Street. The walk wouldn't take more than ten minutes even for me with my short legs.
The council have reduced the car park space in the Merton Meadow for the creation of the flood alleviation swamp . Also they have not made any progression with opening up the fenced off part of the Merton Meadow. I was informed at the High Town consultation by a council employee that they were looking in to it.
Taking this in to account I am sure that the council would have no objections for both football supporters and theatre goers using their car park when otherwise it would be empty. This would go some way to alleviate a parking problem caused by themselves during a busy time.
If they wished the council could charge a small fee , proceeds could either go to a local charity or towards their Christmas party.
