News round up

Andy Whing
Former Hereford assistant Andy Whing has been appointed manager of National League side Brackley Town following Gavin Cowan’s departure to Shrewsbury Town.

Whing, who worked under Russell Slade at Edgar Street, previously led Solihull Moors to the 2024 National League play-off final and FA Trophy final. He has also managed Banbury United and Barrow.

Chairman Matt Wise called it “a major appointment”, while Whing said he is “really passionate” and “ambitious” ahead of Saturday’s game with Southend United.

Chester have extended Phil Croker’s loan from Crewe Alexandra until the end of the season.

The 19-year-old centre-back has made five appearances since arriving in January, scoring the equaliser in a 2-1 win over Bedford Town. Croker joined Crewe last summer after a spell with Oxford City and made his League Two debut on New Year’s Day in a 4-1 home win against Cheltenham Town.

Chester are due to face Hereford at Sixways on Tuesday, February 24.

Struggling National League North side Leamington have secured a boost with the loan extension of Scunthorpe United midfielder Max Brogan until the end of the 2025-26 season.

Brogan, 33 appearances and three goals for the Iron since joining from Solihull Moors, has made an instant impact with the Brakes, scoring three times in six games, including a viral half-way line strike against Macclesfield.

The deal includes a 24-hour recall clause in Scunthorpe’s favour.

AFC Telford United have confirmed Jahdahn Fridye-Harper has left the club by mutual consent.

The 28-year-old defender made 12 appearances after joining from Barwell in February 2025, helping the Bucks secure promotion to the National League North. He will be remembered for his stunning solo goal in the Southern Central Premier play-off final against Kettering Town.

Fridye-Harper lost his place earlier this season and departed the SEAH Stadium before Telford threw away a 2-0 goal lead to draw 2-2 with Chorley on Tuesday.
