Chairman confirms Rooney and Edwards' future at Hereford

Adam Rooney and Shaun Edwards

Hereford chairman Chris Ammonds has confirmed Adam Rooney and Shaun Edwards have agreed to stay at Edgar Street.

When it was reported Aaron Downes had been appointed as Hereford's new manager in the wake of Paul Caddis's sacking, the club said it was hoped the duo would stay on.

Now, in his programme notes ahead of this evening's 'home' game against Darlington at Sixways, Ammonds said the pair will be staying.

Rooney, who had been assistant manager under Caddis, will be player-coach, and Shaun Edwards will continue in his role as goalkeeping coach.

The pair took charge of Saturday's game at Southport, which ended in an embarrassing 5-1 defeat and will continue alongside Downes and new assistant manager Harry Pell

"Ahead of tonight’s game we were delighted to appoint our new manager, Aaron Downes, and I’m really looking forward to watching him stamp his authority on our club," Ammonds said in the programme, which can be read for free online.

"Aaron was a stand-out candidate among the applicants, and we were very impressed by his positivity, his personality, his belief in his own methods and how badly he wanted this job. He is also highly thought of by people he has worked alongside since moving into coaching.

"Before we spoke to him, Aaron put forward a detailed plan to navigate us through the rest of the season, and he has clearly already spent a lot of time watching our matches and assessing the options available to him.

"I’d like to wish Aaron, and our former player, Harry Pell, all the very best in their new roles and I’d also like to thank Adam Rooney and Shaun Edwards for their support in stepping up to take the team in challenging circumstances at the weekend.

"I am very pleased both have agreed to stay on with Aaron, as I believe they have a lot to offer in terms of knowledge and experience."
