HUST was honoured to be asked by Ron’s family to be custodians of his Hereford United / Hereford FC statistical records and memorabilia. The family has passed Ron’s programme collection to a reputable dealer so everybody will have the chance to bid for programmes as they are released.
Amongst the considerable memorabilia are a small number of record books from other football clubs. Richard Tomkins, HUST Chair, advises “We felt the most appropriate course of action on these other club record books is to return them to their host club in the spirit of friendship those clubs showed Ron. Using my contacts with supporters of those other clubs I have begun the process of handing the record books over to their long-term fans. Recently I visited Portsmouth.”
Laurance Knight, a Pompey fan of 58 years standing, was delighted to be such a recipient. Laurance says “Heritage isn’t just today, last week or last year. It goes back lifetimes. Larger or smaller clubs, we all must ensure that the history is passed forward to the next generations like our forefathers did for us. I’ve fond memories of Pompey playing Hereford United.”
