Diggers On Lower Part Of Merton Meadow Car Park

Hereford supporter Colin Butler is continuing his campaign to keep as much car parking close to Edgar Street as possible.

'So the diggers have now moved in on the lower end of the Merton Meadow car park . This is in readiness for the creation of one of three flood alleviation ponds. The car park space will now be lost forever.

The council have stated on a number of occasions that no car park spaces will be lost until a new parking provision is found elsewhere. This has turned out to be totally untrue, they have not only misled the people of Herefordshire but some of their own councillors.

Fair play to councillor Polly Andrews for pushing for another public consultation on the development of the Merton Meadow. An important issue bearing in mind that under current plans all parking spaces will be lost, impacting greatly on shoppers and Hereford FC.

Wouldn't it be nice if the council could open up the the fenced off section bordering Edgar Street, where the circus was located some months ago. This would compensate a little for the loss of the lower end car park and help with the run up to Christmas and on football match days. It could be run by the council or volunteers to raise money for various local charities.'
