'The Peter Heritage Cup has been arranged between Hastings United Vets and Sidley United Vets for the Pilot Field on Sunday, August 30, in honour of Peter Heritage who was recently diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia (LBD).
Peter started his senior football career with Hastings United in 1979 before short spells at Tonbridge Angels and Bexhill Town. He then spent six seasons at Hastings Town before joining Hythe Town along with Terry White in 1989, scoring 12 goals in 19 appearances.
This caught the attention of Gillingham, who paid in the region of £30,000 for the 28-year-old striker. He scored 11 goals in 57 appearances for Gillingham and was nicknamed Hagar by the Gills fans before moving to Hereford United in 1991 for a fee of £20,000.
He scored 10 goals for Hereford before joining Doncaster Rovers in 1992. After leaving Doncaster he moved backed to Hastings Town before spells with Woking, St. Leonards and Margate before joining Sidley United in 1996.
He helped Sidley win promotion in 1999 before winning the Sussex County Division 1 title with them in 2001.
He was joint- manager at Sidley from 2001 and left the club in 2005. After a short spell away from football he ended his playing career at Bexhill United in 2009.
Peter moved into coaching and had successful spells at Eastbourne Town and Hastings United.
Hastings United said: “Peter was one of our own and he will be fondly remembered by many local football fans and ex-players as "H". His family have requested that all proceeds from the charity match be awarded to Heart Of Sidley and Hastings United Foundation.”
Gates will open at 12.30pm and there will be live entertainment provided by Matt Shephard. Tickets are £10 for adults, with free entry for children.
There will be a Golden Goal competition and children will be able to take part in some on-pitch activities at half-time.
Local people are urged to go and show their support for a local footballing legend and watch in action the likes of Sean Ray, Sam Adams, Chris Agutter, Lee Carey, Ade Olorunda, Lee Worgan, Rhys Whybourne – and a host of other former players and managers.'
