‘I’ll keep fighting’: Defiant Caddis under fire as Hereford’s winless run continues

Hereford manager Paul Caddis has faced a grilling after his side fell to 2-1 defeat to Southport - enough to lift them off the foot of the table and now just a point behind Hereford in 19th.

Caddis said he was extremely disappointed after the game and one against said "it's not been good enough", though, like he did at Oxford City when the Bulls lost 3-0, thought there were good moments.

Having spoken to his squad at training on Thursday, while some players admitted they had to do better, Caddis said Hereford were not being outplayed.

Though as Southport visited Edgar Street, two goals and a sending off in the first half for the visitors left Hereford with an uphill battle as they tried to break down a side with 10 men behind the ball.

Given it's not the first time Caddis has said Hereford have not been good enough and they are now six games without a win, he was pushed on whether was confident he can turn things around.

"Yeah, absolutely, we've had tough moments before," he said, with a growing number of fans questioning whether he's got what it takes to turn Hereford's fortunes around.

"By the way, I know everyone wants to look at the negativity and I absolutely get it. We were five unbeaten at home. That's the facts of it. The context maybe wasn't good enough, games that we think we should have won, but I'll continue as long as I'm required to.

"I won't hold back on anything. I'll continue to go and try and make it right, get results, and we'll go from there."

It was then put to Caddis by BBC Hereford and Worcester's Carson Wishart that Hereford have conceded first in the last nine games.

When asked why, Caddis said: "I don't know. It's been very difficult at home. If you look, some of the goals have been errors that that we've we've suffered from. Again, when when one of my players makes an error, it's on me.

"I'm happy to sit here and take all the the criticism and I know that people are desperate for you to ask those questions, Carson, which is fine, and I will never shy away from them."

He added: "I get it. I'm living it. I'm there and amongst it. I get it's not good enough. I hear it. I hear all the boos and stuff like that and that's acceptable because again, it's not personal."

Pushed further, it was put to Caddis that 16 points from 16 games is relegation form - off the back of a records point tally and one point of the play-offs last year.

"I don't know if you want me to say 'oh we're going to get relegated, we're going to do this we're going to do that', no, we'll come out fighting - I don't know anything else.

"I'll keep fighting, keep fighting, keep fighting and if it's not good enough, then I will walk away with my head held high that I've done everything I possibly can.

"But the thought process now is how do we get better? How do we get a positive result on Tuesday? That's all I can control. I can't control everything else outside, the noise, all the rest. I understand it.

"I know there's been a lot of negativity towards me. I'm fine with that. That's part of the role. However, I will just keep fighting and keep fighting and keep fighting. And then again, there's stats there that will back it up, say that we haven't been good enough, which is correct because right now in this moment it is relegation form. I'm not going to stand here and say we're going to make the playoffs."
