Difficult Times At AFC Sudbury

There are currently difficult times at AFC Sudbury who play Hereford in the FA Trophy on Saturday week.

Here's a update from their CEO Alicia Holland:

'Following on from our appointing Tommy as Interim Head Coach following Danny's decision to leave the team due to a multitude of factors, Tommy had only a few days to prepare, one training session and the first match after the players were told about Danny’s decision, before Tom’s first match with them. Unfortunately, they lost that one but a well-deserved draw last night is a start on the right steps.

The directors have been working on the process for the appointment of a new permanent head coach making sure it is undertaken correctly, transparently and for the long-term benefit of the club. The new head coach needs to align with the club's overall philosophy; with 49 teams, there is a lot more that holds the club together than the gate receipts and subsequent financial losses of the Men's First Team sector.

Unfortunately, historic overspending on the Men's First Team and a lack of transparency across the club with other legacy challenges, means we are in the position we are this season with little wiggle room to make adjustments, and any coach coming in will be aware of the financial constraints this season. We need supporters' understanding and patience at this transitional time in the club. The process for the appointment of a permanent Head Coach will commence from Friday.

The club is about to publish its latest financial statements to companies house and all recent years are publicly viewable. If you would like to understand the difficult decisions the new directors are having to make, feel free to look at the statements on Companies House from the recent years of uncontrolled spend. We are trying to diversify revenue for the club as much as possible whilst keeping the purse strings tight.

We are also currently working on the club’s short-mid-and long-term strategy which it hasn't done in many a year if, at all previously, and if you ever want accurate and transparent information from the club, feel free to look at our website and public statements, or contact us directly with any questions.'
