Edgar Street floodlight transformed into touching memorial for Ron Parrott

The finished memorial to Ron Parrott, made from one of the floodlight bulbs
The memorial to Hereford historian Ron Parrott has been completed and will be unveiled at Edgar Street later this month.

Spearheaded by Paul Green, 30 people helped raise £750 to fund the sculpture, made from one of the old floodlights which stood above Edgar Street for years.

Metalwork artist Stuart has since created the fitting tribute to Ron - which is 8ft tall and will be displayed somewhere within the club.

Bulls News understands the plan is to present the memorial with the artist to the family prior to the Alfreton game on Saturday 30th August.

"Many thanks to all who donated and made this possible," Green said, having come up with the idea to honour Ron Parrott and his love, passion and dedication to Hereford United and Hereford FC.

While Ron was one of the supporters to buy one of the old floodlight from the iconic towers, his untimely passing meant he was never able to see it turned into something special or enjoy it.

"It's worth noting that the club have none of the floodlights left so this would not only be a fitting tribute to Ron but would retain a part of the clubs history at the ground, something that I'm certain Ron would have wanted with his floodlight," Green previously said.

Ron died in July aged 75, with a minute's applause held at Edgar Street ahead of the first home game of the season against King's Lynn Town last Saturday.
