Chairman warns fans about their behaviour at Edgar Street

Chris Ammonds has warned supporters not to get so drunk and in 'such a state' they can't control themselves
Hereford FC chairman Chris Ammonds has warned supporters about their behaviour after reports of staff being abused.

He said while there was a lot of positivity around Edgar Street at the moment with six wins in the last seven games, leaving the club fifth in the Vanarama National League North table, he said he wanted to remind supporters that they are expected to behave.

Issuing the warning, he said bans will be handed out by the club and urged fans not to get drunk to the point they can no longer control themselves.

"There is no doubt that the vast majority of our fans behave impeccably at all times, but we have recently had a couple of reports of poor behaviour at games – including our own staff being abused," he said in his programme notes for Alfreton.

"I’d like to warn people that we simply won’t stand for it and that while handing out bans is a last resort for us, it is something we will not hesitate to do if repeat offenders are brought to our attention I would urge supporters to remember to behave responsibly and simply enjoy what I hope will be an exciting end to the 2024/25 campaign.

"By all means enjoy a drink with your family and friends if that is part of your matchday experience, but please don’t get into such a state that you cannot control yourself.

"Having said all that, it is very important that I thank you all for the fantastic support you continue to give our team. The recent run of good results is nothing more than you deserve and long may it continue."

After the 2-0 defeat at home to Spennymoor earlier this month, the club said they were  looking into reports of personal abuse – including racist language – being directed towards staff.

Anyone who has witnessed unacceptable behaviour has been asked to to report it to club staff (at jgriffiths@herefordfc.co.uk) or the police – in confidence if necessary – so that it "can be dealt with properly".
