Most of Edgar Street's lights were out and the doors locked before any reaction to Hereford's humiliating defeat in the FA Trophy by lower league Brentwood.
What was said in the dressing room is, of course, unknown but it was an hour after the final whistle that assistant manager Adam Rooney came to speak to the media. Manager Paul Caddis had to sit out the game in the stands.
To be fair to Rooney he apologised for the delay.
Rooney played the first half and directed the second.
H&W's Terry Goodwin suggested it had been a disappointing day at the office.
"Yes, dreadful," said Rooney.
"Fair play to them, they deserved to win the game.
"We struggled to threaten the keeper.
"Dreadful day, we've let the club down.
"We had a great run last year and we spoke before the game how good a cup run can be for the club and the fans.
"We've not let a glove on them really."
What went wrong?
"We had a good chat, that's why you've been waiting here for a while, we went through a few things.
"This season at home we've had a few games here, certain games, teams are coming here and we expect to be the better side and going to win and it takes something to happen to get us going.
"We're a very intense team, momentum based and when it's going well we're really good but at times in certain games we've looked a little bit complacent, it's not a nice thing to be said about any team but we do look a bit complacent against certain teams and we think that's cost us again today.
"I don't know whether that was mentality going on the pitch from some players.
"The first fifteen minutes I think they had two or three shots, two or three corners and we barely got into the game.
"After that we built a little bit of momentum and coming up to half time had a couple of scrambles but again I don't think we hit the target with a shot.
"A very disappointing day."
