Proper FA Cup Game Said Rooney

Hereford's Adam Rooney, who scored the only goal of the tie, spoke to the media after last night's FA Cup replay at Ilkeston.

"It was a proper FA Cup game," said Rooney.

"Fair play to them they had us right under the cosh near the end. They loaded the box really well, lot of bodies, they put a lot of balls forward and a good crowd behind them.

"We knew it was going to be a difficult game but the main thing in the Cup is getting through to the next round so we're happy to be in the next round."

Rooney's goal came on 40 minutes.

"It was a scrappy first half, no real flow to the game, kind of end to end.

"The plan was to dictate the game, getting some passes, but to be fair to them they pressed us really well, didn't really allow us to play and it became a bit end to end.

"So it was good to get the goal before half time and try and settle the game.

"It was a bit sticky out there so people were trying to put their foot on the ball and sliding, slipping on it at times.

"But it's all about getting through tonight.

"We had a lot of lads walking wounded basically so we knew we had to dig in."

It was suggested to Rooney that manager Paul Caddis would be a lot happier than after last Saturday when the teams drew at Edgar Street.

"He's never happy, I don't think I've seen him happy yet!"
