Edgar Street Looks Immaculate

Edgar Street looks immaculate ahead of Saturday's first league match of the season against Spennymoor.

And, as ever, it's down to head groundsman Ben Bowen.

Work on the pitch started on June 5th.

"We cleaned the surface with a scarifier before punching in millions of holes, then put 400kg of seed down, 250kg of high nitrogen fertiliser, top dressed with 60 tonnes of sand and then the worry started with five weeks until the Arsenal game," said Bowen.

“We had a good start with growth of new grass and started mowing it eight days after renovations; the sprinkler system was non-stop and a lot of hand watering in order to get a pitch that our lads and the Arsenal team would be happy with.

"I’ve decided to do something different for the first League game with the patterns on the pitch. It’s something I like to do from time-to-time and I’ve already got my thinking cap on to come up with more to use as the season progresses.

“As I say, I’ve just got a good feeling about this season and feel that the team can be right up there in the mix.”
