Noisy Fans Clash After Hereford Friendly

Noisy fans from Hereford and Shrewsbury clashed after last night's friendly at Edgar Street.

One supporter spoke to BN.

"Looked like a lot of trouble outside in Edgar Street afterwards, the hard-core chanters went there quickly after the game, several police running and looking disorganised. Stewards could see this escalating but chose to just watch and not act.

"The police should have been brought into the ground when fans refused to move when requested by stewards as I saw it."

There were four police in the ground for much of the game.

Later West Mercia Police issued a statement.

"Following the conclusion of the Hereford v Shrewsbury pre-season friendly at around 9.30pm around 40 fans became involved in disorder in the area around Edgar Street, Hereford.

"Police were able to keep the groups of fans separated and facilitated their dispersal.

"No arrests were made. Enquiries are ongoing to identify fans who committed public order offences."

Later Hereford chairman Jon Hale mentioned the trouble.

"Disappointingly, we are aware of a minor incident outside Edgar Street after the final whistle; we are in dialogue with the police to find out more, and will take any necessary action. It is isn’t what this club is about, simple as that."
